Aaron Ogden is a fitness professional and adventurer.

He has been a certified fitness trainer for 20 years specializing in training programs for outdoor recreational and competitive activities. From climbing peaks to accomplishing Spartan challenges Aaron’s fitness and outdoor knowledge has helped many people accomplish their goals to achieve things never thought possible.


Aaron is a professional adventure racer competing in the ARWS and local race series. He also participates in many outdoor activities such as canyoneering, mountain biking, white water kayaking, and backcountry skiing. He loves sharing his outdoor passion with others.


Aaron has a B. S. In Exercise Science from the University of Utah. He is a father and husband.

ZOOM MEETING: Virtually explore the mountain and prepare for the expedition including training tips, packing lists, and thorough walk through of the expedition. This will also be our first executive coaching session and will get you started on the transformation that will happen on the mountain.

 

 

Aug 21, Sept 18 | Practice Trek: Mt. Timpanogos (Optional)

 

 

1:00 a.m.: We will start in the middle of the night to reach the summit by sunrise. Join Curtis and climb to the summit of one of the most amazing mountains in Utah. This will help with the acclimation training and be a great day of exploration. This will be an 8-14 hour day and a 15 mile trek.



20 Oct | Day 1: Arrive at Mount Kilimanjaro Airport    

Meals: D

 

Arrival Airport: Kilimanjaro International Airport (JRO)

 

Introduction: At 19,341 feet, Mount Kilimanjaro is Africa’s highest peak and one of the Seven Summits, standing among Mount Everest and Mount Blanc as some of the tallest mountains in the world. This climb is not for the faint of heart—it takes hard work and determination to push past both physical and mental barriers. Hike the popular Marangu route to reach the summit, Uhuru Peak—a once in a lifetime experience. The journey is challenging, but this expedition is guaranteed to be one of the most truly fulfilling accomplishments of your life. 

 

Afternoon: Arrive in Tanzania by flight into Tanzania. After disembarking the plane and collecting your baggage. Please proceed to the immigration hall where you will purchase your visa upon arrival (unless you have obtained this in advance). As of June, 2018 the visa cost $100 USD per person to be paid in new, crisp bills. After exiting the arrival hall, you will see your driver with a sign reading “Acanela Expeditions” to welcome you to Tanzania. You will be transported to your hotel where you will meet with Abdul, your Kilimanjaro guide to give you a debrief of the climbing schedule, ask about any dietary restrictions or needs, and help prepare you for the climb the following day! 

 

Dinner: Enjoy a traditional welcome dinner and experience the flavors of authentic East African cuisine at your hotel. Be sure not to stay up too late, as you will have several long days of hiking as you begin your experience on Kilimanjaro.  

 

Evening: Relax and prepare to begin ascending Mount Kilimanjaro by spending the night in Moshi at the Selig Hotel (a clean, basic hotel at the foot of Kilimanjaro)

21 Oct | Day 2: MARANGU GATE TO MANDARA HUTS     Meals: B, L, D 

Distance: 8km/5mi (4-5 hrs)/ Elevation Gain: 6,046ft to 8,858ft / Climate: Rainforest

 

Breakfast: Enjoy breakfast at the hotel before packing up your gear and preparing for the climb up Kilimanjaro. Hydration and proper nutrition are incredibly important in ensuring you have energy to climb several days up the mountain.

 

Morning: Your guide will pick us  up at the hotel and a beautiful one hour drive will take us to the base of Mount Kilimanjaro. At the base, we will meet up with our chefs and porters who will accompany us on the climb. 

 

Lunch: We will break for lunch before starting our trek up the mountain. 

 

Afternoon: After lunch, we will begin our journey towards Mandara Hut (2,700m), traversing through lush, untouched rainforest (5-8 hours of walking). 

 

Dinner: Dine on traditional mountain food that will keep you energized for the days ahead. 

 

Evening: Unwind from the day’s adventure by taking in the gorgeous views of the surrounding landscape. When you are ready to get some rest, relax and catch a good night’s sleep in a Mandara Hut.

22 Oct | Day 3: MANDARA HUTS TO HOROMBO HUTS     Meals: B, L, D 

Distance: 12/7mi (6-8 hrs)/ Elevation Gain: 8,858ft to 12,205ft / Climate: Heather Moorland

 

Breakfast: Awaken to golden sun rays peeking through the huts. A nutrient-rich meal will get us ready for the journey ahead of us today as we begin climbing. 

 

Morning: The first leg of our journey takes us up a steep ascent, past the Maundi Crater and through the verdant rainforest. Soon, the path will open into grassy moorland- cross your fingers for clear weather as it allows for spectacular views of Kibo and Mawenzi peaks. 

 

Lunch: We will break for lunch before continuing our trek up the mountain. 

 

Afternoon: After lunch, we will continue hiking steadily through the grassy moorland zone and we should reach Horombo Hut (3,700 m) by late afternoon (4-6 hours walking). Take a moment to relax and freshen up before dinner. 

 

Dinner: Enjoy robust soups, breads, dried meats and curries at the camp lodge. 

 

Evening: Relax and unwind while enjoying the brilliant sunset before catching some shut-eye in a Horombo Hut.

23 October | Day 4: MOUNT KILIMANJARO   

Meals: B,L,D

 

ACCLIMATIZATION AND TRAINING DAY ON MOUNTAIN

 

Breakfast: Enjoy a delicious breakfast before we begin our climb.

Afternoon: TBD

 

Dinner: Enjoy robust soups, breads, dried meats and curries at the camp lodge. 

 

Evening: Relax and unwind while enjoying the brilliant sunset before catching some shut eye in a Horombo Hut.

24 Oct | Day 5: HOROMBO HUTS TO KIBO BASE CAMP     Meals: B, L, D

Distance: 10km/6mi (5-6 hrs)/ Elevation Gain: 12,205ft to 15,430 ft / Climate: Alpine Desert

 


Breakfast: Fuel up with an energizing breakfast prepared by our wonderful chefs, and motivation singing by our crew, before preparing to resume our climb. 

 

Morning: You’ll feel as if you’ve set foot on the moon as we trek across the Saddle, a vast stretch of desolate land between Mawenzi and Kibo peaks.

 

Lunch: Around midday, we’ll reach the bottom of the latter peak’s crater wall and stop to recharge with a packed lunch.

 

Afternoon: Upon finishing lunch, we hike just a short distance to Kibo Hut (4,700 m). We will spend the remainder of the day resting and eating in preparation for the final climb! (4-6 hours walking) 

 

Dinner: Enjoy a nutritious meal that will restore and re-energize your body. 

 

Evening: Get some much-needed sleep and rest in a Kibo Hut before resuming our climb at 12 a.m. to the top of the mountain. 

 

Accommodation: Kibo Hut, Kilimanjaro Mountain

 

25 Oct | Day 6: KIBO TO UHURU PEAK / TO HOROMBO    Meals: B, L, D 

Distance: 6km/4mi (6-8 hrs)/ Elevation Gain: 15,430ft to 19,341ft/ Climate: Arctic Tundra | *After summit it’s 4-5 hrs to Horombo 

 

Midnight Summit: Guided by our experts, we will set out by torchlight at 12 a.m. toward Mount Kilimanjaro’s summit, Uhuru Peak (5,896 m). This early start will allow us to slowly and safely ascend a steep slope over loose volcanic scree to reach Gillman’s Point (5,685 m) in 5-6 hours without acclimatization problems by sunrise. 

 

Snack Break / Light Breakfast: While taking in the breathtaking view of the sun’s fiery rays stretching across a sea of clouds, enjoy a breakfast that will carry you through the next leg of our journey. 

 

Mid-Morning: After sunrise, we’ll continue on our final ascent along the crater rim to Uhuru Peak, the highest peak in Africa. We’ll traverse by one of the largest craters on the continent, see the only glaciers in Africa, and revel in the stunning panoramic views as we reach Uhuru peak—an experience of a lifetime. Despite your exhaustion, celebrate this incredible moment and take pride in this special accomplishment. After documenting your success in reaching Africa’s highest summit, we’ll begin our descent down the crater rim.

 

Brunch: Arriving back at Kibo Base Camp, enjoy a big lunch, and take a rest before departing back down to Horombo Huts at lower elevation.

 

Afternoon: Descend to Horombo Hut (4-5 hours) and relax for the rest of the evening.

 

Dinner: Upon arrival at base camp, the crew will greet us with a delicious dinner.

 

Evening: Relax, celebrate your success and enjoy the views once more from Horombo Hut.

26 Oct | Day 7: HOROMBO TO MARANGU GATE      Meals: B,L,D

 

Breakfast: Wake up to a hearty breakfast and enjoy spending a few last moments on the beautiful mountain.

 

Morning: Say goodbye to the mountain as we retrace our steps with a laidback walk to Mandara Hut.

 

Lunch: We’ll stop at Mandara Hut for lunch before resuming our journey out of the park.

 

Afternoon: Enjoy a scenic trek through the forest to the park gates. From here, we’ll part with our invaluable crew and head back to Moshi via private bus.

 

Dinner: Dine on delicious food prepared by our team.

 

Evening: Rest and enjoy the exotic surroundings before getting some much-needed sleep in your hotel.

27 Oct | Day 7: DEPART MOUNT KILIMANJARO AIRPORT

   Meals: B

 

Breakfast: Enjoy one more breakfast in Africa before preparing to go home.

 

Morning: Sadly, it’s time to leave Africa. Our private bus will bring us to Kilimanjaro International Airport, where we’ll board our international flights home. If you’re ready for even more adventure, you have the option to extend your trip with a safari in the Northern Circuit of the Serengeti.
